The Shimshal people are known for their friendliness and for the good
time they have. Their life is circles around the festivals, which gave
them some relief from the harsh environment but however, socially and

July at
shimshal pass (pamir)
One of the
Interesting and unique
Festival only held in Shimshal and no where else in Northern area of
Pakistan and which is
celebrating for last 400
years in a conventional way. The
myth behind the festival is some 400 years ago a man has lost his yak
during his visit to Walyoo( a place name) . After a search of many days he
got a glimpse of his yak which was slipped
in and ensnare beneath a
 |
stone he tried his
best to take him out but all his efforts were in vain, At that night he saw a dream in which a man
instructing him to sacrifice the Yak in the name of God ( Called Niaz) so
he did what was instructed in the dream Since from that day the people
take their Yak to Walyoo and sacrifice the animals in the name of God. One
of fascinating thing in the Festival is the Yark race. It is nearly 10Km
race which is held in a customary way
The race starts from Sworth ( a place in Shimshal Pass situated at height 4735 m) to Yakthtash (
Walyoo 4655 m) One should experience only one of its kind festival which will linger in your memories
for many years
